| Alcoholics Anonymous World Service office of Alcoholics Anonymous. AA is is a fellowhip of recovering alcoholics who meet regularly to help each other to stay sober. This site describes the fellowship and some basic on-line literature is available.

| Overeaters Anonymous The World Service office of Overeaters Anonymous. OA is a fellowship of individuals who, through shared experience, strength and hope, are recovering from compulsive overeating. This is an excellent website, with loads of information, access to literature and details of all AO meetings - including those in the UK.

| Somerset and Wessex Eating Disorders Association This is a really, really good website. SWEDA is a registered, not for profit, charity based in Street, Somerset that offers support to all those 'affected by eating disorders' across Somerset. Although SWEDA is a local charity, their website has absolutely loads of top class information about eating disorders and links to other valuable websites. It also has a BRILLIANT message board, where people can find advice and support. Great site! |
| The Obesity Awareness & Solutions Trust (TOAST) TOAST is a national advocacy charity, offering a range of services, including a Help & Information Line via telephone or email, catering to people involved with all aspects of overweight issues and obesity. Lots of information and advice on the website - including a discussion forum. |

| Counselling Directory This website provides a comprehensive guide to local confidential support in the UK. The purpose of the site is to enable those in distress - for whatever reason - to find a counsellor close to them that is appropriate for their needs. This is a free service. The information about the counsellors is still being collated and so only name and address details can be found on the majority of counsellor profiles at the moment. The website also provides information on addictions, abuse and eating disorders. |

| Families Anonymous - UK A fellowship for relatives and friends of people who abuse drugs or alcohol or who have related behavioural problems. This site describes the fellowship, has information for families and friends, and describes the literature available from FA. |
| Adfam Adfam is a national charity working with families affected by drugs and alcohol and is a leading agency in substance related family work. It provides a range of publications and resources for families about substances and criminal justice and operates an online message board and database of local support groups that helps families hear about and talk to people who understand their situation. Adfam also runs direct support services at London prisons for families of inmates affected by drugs. A list of publications and resources is available online. |
| Al-Anon UK & Eire Al-Anon is a fellowship that exists to help families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a family member, relative or friend. This is the UK and Eire website, which has loads of information and local contact details. |

TIDE This is a small website run by TIDE - a voluntary group in the Littlehampton, West Sussex area which provides support, information and advice to drugs/alcohol misusers, their friends and families. TIDE is named for "Turning the tide of drug/alcohol misuse in Littlehampton". They have a families and friends support group once a month and a 24 hour help-line.

A great website with loads of recovery inspiration. The aim of the site is to provide information about AA and details for people wishing to contact the Fellowship in the UK. It's also a forum for members of AA to share their experience,strength and hope. |

| MEETINGS BY CHAT OR EMAIL |
| Earth Group NA Earth Group NA is an e-mail "meeting" of recovering addicts (this includes alcohol). The website contains information about the programme of NA and how it helps people to get clean and stay clean. Plenty of on-line support, as it currently has over 1,100 members worldwide! EGNA also has a chat room with regular "meetings" some with a topic, some are 'open' - i.e. anything affecting your recovery. Marathon meetings around major public holidays too. Follow the link to the room(s) from the website homepage. There is a suggested way to use the room page and a listing of meeting times, all times quoted are New York USA, so the UK is 5 hours ahead. |

| MIND National organisation for mental health with offices throughout England and Wales which can provide support for tranquilliser users and facilitate self-help groups. |
| The Samaritans The Samaritans is a charity that provides confidential emotional support to any person who is suicidal or despairing. The service is provided 24 hours a day by trained volunteers. They can be contacted via the website by e-mail, or by telephone or letter. |
| Citizens Advice Bureau CAB provides free confidential, independent and impartial advice on every subject. They can deal with questions related to Social Security, housing, discrimination and the law etc. There is no specific information about drugs or alcohol on this site. |
