Drug & Alcohol Rehab Centres in Staffordshire

In Staffordshire, binge drinking and alcohol abuse are problems that local officials are trying to tackle. With around 21,000 alcoholics in the county and many more drinking to harmful levels, it is important that alcohol rehab in Staffordshire is available to those that need it. It is important to remember that abuse of alcohol affects more than just the abuser. Many people with no experience of addiction often fail to realise that these illnesses have knock-on effects and can cause harm to family members, friends, co-workers, communities and even the economy. It is a problem that must be addressed; here at Recovery.org.uk, we are working hard to help.

Although the number of problem drug users in the county is far lower, coming in at just over 3000, there is still work to be done to reduce the harm caused by drug use. It is estimated that almost seventy per cent of these drug users are receiving treatment for their problems, but the remaining thirty per cent still need help when it comes to accessing drug rehab in Staffordshire.

Substance abuse is often responsible for violent crime, domestic violence, divorce, poverty, unemployment, homelessness, poor health, and premature death. It places a massive burden on the National Health Service, with millions spent every year treating drug and alcohol-related illnesses and injuries. However, if more people could get the help they needed to recover, much of this harm could be eliminated.

What to Expect from Rehab in Staffordshire

When it comes to drug and alcohol rehab in Staffordshire, you will have many options in terms of where you go for treatment. Programmes tend to be either residential or outpatient and are provided by various organisations, including the NHS to charities to private clinics.

In most instances, residential treatment will be provided by the many private clinics operating in and around of the area. The NHS, local counsellors and charities tend to provide outpatient programmes.

The type of treatment programme that you choose will depend on several factors, and we can help to guide you through your options by providing information and advice. We will assess the severity of your illness and provide you with our recommendations for treatment, but you will have the final say on where you want to go. With that in mind, we would like to provide a brief outline of both inpatient and outpatient programmes and what to expect from them.

Outpatient Programmes

An outpatient programme will require you to attend a clinic for treatment during the day, but you will return home at night. How often you attend the clinic will usually depend on the provider’s programme and your own requirements. You may find that in the early days, you are required to attend the clinic every day but after a while, this may be reduced to once or twice per week.

Outpatient programmes are ideally suited to those with a less severe addiction and others with a strong support network at home. They are also suitable for patients that would find it impossible to be away from home for an extended period.

Inpatient Programmes

With an inpatient programme, patients are required to enter the clinic and stay there for the duration of the programme, which is usually around six to eight weeks. During this time, they will receive an intensive programme of care; days will be filled with counselling and therapy sessions as well as seminars, workshops and other activities. The environment in a private residential clinic is quiet and relaxed, and there will be little or no distractions from the outside world so that patients can fully focus on their recovery without worrying about anything else.

Is Detox Necessary before Alcohol or Drug Rehab?

Whether you need to detox before entering alcohol or drug rehab in Staffordshire will really depend on the severity of your addiction. Those with a severe addiction are likely to be physically dependent on drugs or alcohol so once they stop taking these substances will almost certainly experience withdrawal symptoms that could make them feel quite unwell.

It would be counterproductive to attempt a rehab programme while going through a drug or alcohol withdrawal. You would not be able to give your full focus to your recovery, and as detox tends to take seven to ten days to complete, this would take a significant chunk out of your rehab time. It is essential that patients have a clear mind and body before starting their treatment as this will allow them to concentrate on getting better.

If you do require a detox, we would advise you to undergo the process within a supervised facility. The reason for this is that detox can be complicated, and the safest and most comfortable way to get through the process is a facility where the staff have experience of dealing with patients coming off these chemical substances.

There is also the risk of severe withdrawal symptoms, some of which could be life-threatening if not treated quickly and effectively. As it is impossible to tell what symptoms a person might experience and how severe these might be, we recommend that all patients detox under careful supervision from a medical professional.
